LIS ACADEMY, BENGALURU :
The LIS Academy (Library & Information Science Academy) is a professional charitable Trust established to work for the development of the Profession and to assist Libraries with the state-of-the-art technology. The primary focus of the Academy is to provide need-based service to the different types of Libraries in the country and to work for the advancement of Library and Information Science (LIS) profession at large. The LIS Academy having a tagline “Learn Inspire Serve”, aims to become the best, active and dynamic professional body by supporting the professionals with the essential knowledge, skills, and values of librarianship using innovative and cutting-edge technology and by adopting best and fair practices and innovative ideas. The mission of the LIS Academy is to spread multi-dimensional utility and overall growth of profession of Librarianship, through education, literature, research, publications, outsource, training programs, consultation and collaboration. LIS Academy has been registered as an NGO under the NGO Darpan of Neeti Ayog Government of India (Reg. No. BK IV 115/16-17, Bangalore, Karnataka). It has also been awarded the 80G status from Income Tax Department and FCRA from Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

Bharathidasan University, one of the premier institutions of higher learning, has consistently demonstrated excellence in teaching, learning, and research, earning its reputation as a top-ranked university. SCHOOL OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE
The Bharathidasan University Library was established in the year 1982 and started functioning from the city campus i.e. Khajamalai, later it has been shifted to the main campus in the year 1988. The Library got its own building in the magnificent block from 29th May 1997 with a carpet area of 3107.78 Sq. meters. The first floor of the Library started functioning from 2008 with the same carpet area. Reference library with the seating capacity of 50 is functioning at the city campus.
The University Library had its collection of more than one lakh volumes with 5000 regular users and 26 library staff members serving to the academic community of affiliated colleges, other institutions in the region and general public has been provided access to the library resources and facilities in both campuses. 204 current periodicals are being subscribed of both national and international as print cum online editions to cover a wide range of subjects to facilitate users to access current academic and research literature. In addition, 10000 e-journals in full text and more than 10000 e-books can be accessed campus-wide to enhance the quality of teaching and research activities. The University library with new and valued added facilities such as Digital Library, Remote Access, Institutional Repository, IRINS, similarity check with Turnitin and Learning Management System, Shodhganga ETD, Children’s Corner, Heritage Documentation and Library Garden with reading and Wi-Fi facility.
The established University Library has become as full time teaching and research department from the academic year 2007-2008 by offering integrated MLIS (2 years) Academic Programme, PGDKLM and full time and part time research programme (Ph.D). The programs offered by the Department are well updated with an industry need based curriculum. These degree programmes provide a solid foundation in core and emerging areas of Library and Information Science and trains students to become independent researchers. The Department has highly qualified and well versed faculty in current areas of LIS and Information Technology with working experience of reputed institutions including National Institutes of Importance.
The Students are trained by the faculty members and external experts in the newer technologies like Digital Libraries, Institutional Repositories, Content Management systems, Knowledge Management, E-Learning and Web Technologies etc., with practical relevance to meet the current needs of the information industry and libraries.
The Department of Library and Information Science has contributed for successful outcome of 17 batch of students including a few form abroad, 30 Ph.D research scholars and more than 100 M.Phil scholars and 35 UGC NET, SET qualified candidates from the Department. The faculty are carried out research and extension activities by awarding seven research projects funded by UGC, MHRD, INFLIBNET, ICSSR, ICMR for the tune of more than rupees One Crore. Instituted IALA Gold Medal from the year 2010 for 1st Rank Students. Organized sponsored International Conferences, Seminars, Workshop, Symposium with the financial assistance of UGC, DST, ICSSR, INFLIBNET SPRINGER and Government of Tamil Nadu in the subject domain including seven UGC- HRDC refresher courses.
